For a Lifetime
Media: Acrylic on puzzle pieces
Year: 2019 Class: Art Foundations Artist statement: This piece represents the damage done during domestic violence. The light blue and leaves represent the look of the relationship or the person. The dark blue and bare branches represents how the person feels about themselves. I chose the title "for a lifetime" because after being in a domestic violence relationship I have realized that this is a life long effect. Your experiences bother you for the rest of your life. The missing pieces represent what you notice is missing in your relationship or what is wrong with it, and what other people notice is wrong with the relationship. |
The Draw Back
Media: colored pencil on paper
year: 2019 Class: Art Foundations Artist Statement: This piece represents the manipulative works behind domestic violence. The light pastel colors of the flowers represents the lack of energy put into the flowers when looking at them. The red flag represents the amount of focus and energy put into the reasoning for the flowers. And the sign represents why the flowers are there and it also draws a lot of attention because when you see that you automatically know who it is from and why. I choose the title The Draw Back because when the significant other or parent abuses them, they begin to realize that he is a bad person and they should get away from them and break up. In the morning they wake up to breakfast in bed and these flowers. Which in turn quite literally draws them back into the abusive relationship. Unfortunately this is a never ending cycle. |
Media Poison
Media: Collage on canvas
Year: 2019 Class: Art Foundations Artist statement: This piece represents the strain on the pit bulls reputation due to the media. The pictures represent what people thought about pit bulls before the media ruined their reputation and what it looked like afterwards. This piece is meant to show how it has affected the pit bulls lives just as much maybe even more than it has affect us. I hope I can get the message across that they are the ones getting killed not us. I chose the title Media Poison because the media has poisoned the pit bulls reputation. In my opinion if it weren't for the media the general public would have never heard about the Vick case which is what started it all. After the media showed the general public propaganda about pit bulls people began to believe that they really were unpredictable, vicious, and had lock jaws, which none of those are true. I have seen in the past especially during the war people always fell for the propaganda and unfortunately we have not learned from our mistakes to not believe the propaganda. |
